After nearly ten years of making some of the most mindblowing, exciting and original music of our lives, Kenneth Kapstad and Motorpsycho have parted ways.
We realize how lucky we have been to get to go all these crazy places in music together over the last decade, and are grateful for the time we’ve spent together. We’ve made more than ten albums, written and played not only rock operas and church concerts, but played festivals and gigs from Chong Ching to Chicago and challenged ourselves to the max in all respects all the way through. It’s been a fantastic ride and a true joy to get to be a part of this band!
All things must pass, but it is good to go out on a high like this last record and tour – it was truly a worthy end to this thing of ours!
Motorpsycho will obviously continue to make music, but this parting of ways makes it necessary to take stock and meditate on the path forwards for a while. We have no replacement for Kenneth lined up, and don’t really know how things will pan out yet, but that’s the exciting part of the process: the journey is the destination!
We’re sure Kenneth will go on making fantastic music with other people – how could he not! – but we also know he’ll appreciate his period with us: it was a really, really unique and special thing for a special time in our lives, and we thank you for taking the trip with us brother!

This struck me real bad! As a drummer, Kenneth was (and still will be) a great inspiration. I hope you guys will find a worthy drummer with the same musical qualities, ambitions and fine personality. Where this chapter closes I’m curious what road Motorpsycho will be taking! Good luck!

Thanks Kenneth… It was an Awesome trip… After 25 years as a Psychonaut i Trust Bent and Snah… Motorpsycho will turn this too new highs….But Kenneth is one of the best drummers in the world…. I hope Geb return but i think it will never happen… Hm whos gonna replace those two in Norway?…Not easy… But. Kenneth are friends with alot of good drummers.. In Norway Torstein Lofthus and Håvard Takle Ohr had been great in Motorpsycho. Or maby its time to hire a good drummer from U.S.A like Joey Castillo…LOL… Good luck boys…And im looking forward whats turning up… Greetings..

Very sorry to hear that Kenneth is leaving, so glad I had the opportunity to have a chat with him pre-gig outside The Garage in London earlier this month, thanks for your wonderful contribution to the band’s output since you joined way back whenever, sincere good wishes for your future projects (will Spidergawd continue?), and good luck Bent & Snah in recruiting the replacement (that’s one hefty drum riser to fill!!!). Haven’t kept up with MP for some years, but reading the sad news about the split I can’t help but celebrate the highlights of this era, namely the inspired energy and richness of LLM and HMF, complementary with the fluent and powerful excellence of RW4. I believe this mark will be truly missed, just like the previous one. Best of wishes to both parties of the split
Dear Kenneth, I’m shocked, but I know life goes on. I wish you all the best and thanks for the many great hours of music. I hope your new projects will inspire you and push forward and bring you hopefully times to Berlin or Germany.
When I saw MP in 2007 after the break again at Postbahnhof Berlin with the new drummer, wow, music has blew me away and I was completely mesmerized and thrilled, it was unbelievable. What had just happened. The next day I got me immediately a ticket to the concert two weeks later in Hamburg, because I wanted to experience the essential again. And there was a great festival again that made me float for days.
I Love MP since 1999, when I heard it from a friend for the first time. Then I visited every concert that was reached in Germany for me (always Berlin, mostly Hamburg and Leipzig). Each concert was great and special and different. No other band overwhelmed me so much and takes me completely. I always have the feeling that the music crawls under my skin and filled everything out and I am overjoyed.
Dear Bent and Snah you are the best, greatest and most wonderful. Take your time and continue your path. We will wait and hope and always be there.
